HISTORICAL NOTES
There are two versions of this piece with different preludes and slight differences in the fughetta:
The first version is in the Collection P. 804 Fasz. 38 belonged to the organist and German composer Johann Peter Kellner (1705-1772) and in which the prelude is cataloged as BWV 902 / 1a and fughetta as BWV 902/2.
In this version, the title that appears on the first page of the prelude is "Praludium di J.S.B." [Prelude by Johann Sebastian Bach] while the little subsequent fugue is called "Fugetta" [Fughetta], probably the "h" is missing because of the hard pronunciation of the letter "g" in the German language.
The second version is in the Collection P. 1089 copied by Johann Caspar Vogler (1696-1763) and is cataloged as BWV 902; in this collection the prelude is a completely different piece while fughetta is substantially identical although containing some small differences.
In this second version also, the title appearing on the first page of the composition is "Præludium con fuga ex G dur manualiter di Bach" [Prelude and fugue in G Maj. for keyboard by Bach].
