HISTORICAL NOTES
In Clementi's method this piece is referred to as "popular melody", but it really is a piece by the German composer "Joseph Schuster" (1748 – 1812). It was part of a collection of small pieces that appeared in 1790: L'Assemblée; La Savoyarde; Pluton et Proserpine [The assembly; The Savoyard; Pluto and Proserpine]. In addition to the publication in the Clementine method, this piece appeared in a modern print edition for the first time in 1938 in a version for four-hand piano entitled "Vermischte Handstücke" [mix of handmade pieces] [IMSLP: La Savojarde].
