Anna Magdalena Bach-Wilcke was Johann Sebastian Bach second wife. She was also a musician and valuable support her husband's work who often organized social life and musical events, helped him by teaching and frequently transcribing his compositions.
The titles "Klavierbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach" and "Notenbüchlein für Anna Magdalena Bach" refers to two notebooks compiled at different times, containing pieces of various genres for didactic purposes and enjoyment.
The first of these books, the "Klavierbüchlein der A. M. Bach", was compiled in Cöthen in 1722, but unfortunately, only 25 sheets rimain as the rest of the book has been lost.
The second one, the "Notenbüchlein der A. M. Bach", dates back to 1725 and was completed in Leipzig. In the first book all the compositions are by J.S. Bach, while in the second, many pieces by other authors have been added to J.S. Bach's compositions.
